Featured Client Story: Neue Galerie

One of the most recent additions to New York City's famed Museum Mile, the Neue Galerie New York is a museum devoted to early twentieth-century German and Austrian art and design. With the museum's sustained success has come new technology challenges: Museum staff needs an ability to track and manage all the art in their collection, including traveling art pieces. They also have several business divisions that require cohesive data management and presentation for their Book Store inventory system, Design Shop inventory, and product development. Lastly, staff was wrestling with maintaining an old Flash-based website that was costly to update and was not integrated with any of their other business needs or systems.

Control Group refactored the Neue Galerie website, implementing a database-driven site built with HTML and CSS to replace the Flash website. This dramatically enhances the technical flexibility for future changes. Additionally, we integrated an asset management system that provided a long-term information repository for managing, organizing, and tracking the museum's collection. Museum staff are able to directly input information and images of the collection to their website and all site updates can be done by museum staff members as the information changes dynamically.

"Control Group has provided the Neue Galerie with the services of an entire IT department, from general support to converting our website, at a reasonable price," said Peter Katz, CFO, Neue Galerie New York. The new website was also seamlessly integrated with the museum's Book Store and Give Shop inventory systems to provide secure online purchasing. This provided a convenience for website users and minimized phone orders, significantly reducing the turnaround time for online purchases.

The Neue Galerie's new website and the database that drives it, combined with an asset management system and online purchasing engine, has allowed the museum to increase efficiency while maintaining their brand image and keeping information consistent for all visitors.

White House Redux

White House Redux

At Control Group we provide technology services for designers, particularly architects. We've wanted to be involved in a design competition since we started the company almost 8 years ago.

In 2006, we started working with Storefront for Art and Architecture, an organization that we knew was recognized throughout the design community and beyond for their tireless dedication to the arts. Together, in 2007, we held our first competition featuring exemplary graduate and undergraduate work from the top design schools in the Northeastern United States. Control Group assembled all of the submissions and hosted an all star jury to select the winners. In August of 2007, Storefront hosted the Storefront / Control Group Student Design Awards.

Now in 2008, we're excited to be working with Storefront again and thrilled that the White House Redux competition has been so well received. Again in August, we will work with Storefront to prepare a great exhibit and greet the winners.

From www.whitehouseredux.org :

"What if the White House, the ultimate architectural symbol of political power, were to be designed today? On occasion of the election of the 44th President of the United States of America, Storefront for Art and Architecture, in association with Control Group, challenge you to design a new residence for the world's most powerful individual. The best ideas, designs, descriptions, images, and videos will be selected by some of the world's most distinguished designers and critics and featured in a month-long exhibition at Storefront for Art and Architecture in July 2008. All three winners will be flown to New York to collect their prizes at the opening party. Register now and send us your ideas for the Presidential Palace of the future!"
