Ooyala : Interactive Video Demo
Ooyala, a leader in next-generation online video distribution and media management, has partnered with Control Group to showcase the company's new video integration technology. When Ooyala was looking for a way to feature its new range of capabilities and tools, it chose Control Group to create an interactive web application to demonstrate the platform's technologies. In a matter of weeks, Control Group selected sample content, developed the new site, set up integration with Youtube and Flickr, and launched the showcase. We designed the prototyping platform to be modular and flexible so that we can rapidly create proof-of-concept applications for our clients, using their own content and allowing them to demonstrate the technologies' power in specific business contexts.
The showcase demonstrates Ooyala's most recent innovations, which have created new ways to integrate video within the player and web application, providing a range of highly interactive off the shelf functionality not previously available without costly customization. Ooyala has made key advancements in automating video object recognition and tracking, and has developed new player capabilities that expose information about the video content to wrapper applications, such as a web sites featuring video.
When video is processed with Ooyala's tools, content producers can identify and associate metadata with specific people, objects and shapes within the video by using a simple framing tool in the ingest UI. Ooyala's backend video processing platform, based on complex computer vision algorithms, then tracks these tagged objects as they move through the content, preserving their identities and associated metadata. When processed video is displayed in any application using Ooyala's player, these objects "broadcast" their metadata information to the surrounding application whenever and wherever they appear in the video. For example, this data may include objects' identities, descriptions, and their x-y coordinates and dimensions within the video frame. In sum, this technology enables groundbreaking integration capabilities for both active and passive user experiences.
The interactive video showcase illustrates how Ooyala's object recognition technology can manage secondary events around video and derive data about the video from any data source on the web. For the end user, real-time viewing and browsing becomes a more engaging and interactive experience compared to traditional play-and-browse video portals. For the content provider or wrapper application owner, video content can be correlated in real time with the user's interests.
Over the past year Control Group has been implementing Ooyala's suite of technologies for our clients, and the two companies have developed a strong strategic partnership. Both Control Group and Ooyala are committed to finding ways to make content more valuable through interactivity, distribution control, analytics and performance. Please experience the showcase and consider the opportunities it presents. The showcase site has been structured to take advantage of new platform features as they are introduced.
