Control Group Solution

After Michael Jackson's death, VH1's production team came up with big ideas about a better way to provide updated information graphics on the air. They turned to Control Group to develop a better on-air messaging system that easily integrated with their existing platform and tools.

In just five weeks, Control Group implemented the technology and workflow to enable VH1 to display an on-air beacon with up-to-the-minute news and promo information. Working in conjunction with VH1’s graphics production team, Control Group re-engineered the channel’s on-air messaging system and graphics to be XML-driven Flash animations. The graphics that appear onscreen are now rendered in real time and are driven by data that determines their content, style and parameters.

The intuitive system frees up employees who no longer have to manually type in data. It also allows the network total flexibility in scheduling on-air information and graphics. VH1 even won a Broadcaster Designers Association award for the new graphics system!
